Lewis University hosts free social network webinar for high school students

Lewis University’s Institute for Information Assurance (IIA) hosted a free webinar for high school students entitled “Social Networks: Save Your Identity.” Michael Godfrey, Management Information Systems instructor at Lewis University, conducted the webinar.

Romeoville High School students participated in the webinar on Dec. 7 and Bolingbrook High School students will participate in the webinar at a later date. It was intended for high school students to learn about how identity theft is made easy, how identities are stolen, the negative consequences of identity theft as well as preventative measures, such as browser security.

This event was sponsored by the IIA, which is based in the Master of Science in Information Security program. The mission of IIA is to provide quality education and understanding in the field of information security, critical infrastructure protection, homeland security and data network operations.

One objective of the IIA is to establish collaborative relationships with other IA Institutes, academic institutions, corporations and state and federal law enforcement agencies while promoting the awareness and understanding of IA concerns, threats and information security solutions in the university, communities and corporations. High schools, grade schools, non-profit organizations and libraries can request for speakers from the IIA to speak on information security related topics.
